Generis Launching Sovereign Cloud Hosting for CARA, Giving Customers a Free Choice of Jurisdiction

Coming in early 2027, new sovereign hosting options let CARA customers choose exactly in which jurisdiction their content and data sits.

LONDON, UK — Generis, a global leader in enterprise content and data management, today announced that its CARA platform will be available on sovereign cloud infrastructure from early 2027. The new hosting options give customers in life sciences, financial services, the public sector and other regulated industries a genuine, free choice of jurisdiction for where their content and data is hosted, also as relates to the ultimate ownership jurisdiction of the hosting infrastructure companies.

The announcement reflects a shift in how regulated organisations think about data sovereignty. Regional hosting has traditionally been treated as sufficient on its own, but case law and incoming obligations under DORA, NIS2 and GDPR are increasingly asking organisations to demonstrate, not just assert, exactly which jurisdiction their data falls under and who could ever be compelled to access it. For many boards, having that choice, rather than defaulting to a single jurisdiction, has become a priority.

“Sovereignty is really about choice,” said Mark Diaper, CIO at Generis. “Different customers, and different regulators, land in different places on exactly which jurisdiction they need their data to sit in. Rather than make that decision for them, we wanted to give CARA customers a genuine choice of sovereign jurisdictions to host in, so they can pick the option that matches what they, and the rules they operate under, actually require.”

CARA customers can now choose from a number of sovereign hosting jurisdictions, alongside Generis’ existing AWS-hosted CARA Cloud, which remains the recommended default for the large majority of customers.  This includes sovereign hosting options initially in the EU, Switzerland and Canada, with other jurisdictions becoming available later in 2027 (for example Japan, Australia and others).

All sovereign options run the full CARA platform, with no reduction in functionality, configuration flexibility or support compared with Generis’ standard AWS-hosted deployment.
